Expertise in
Criminal Defense
After my first year as a lawyer, I left a lucrative insurance defense practice to pursue criminal litigation since courtrooms are where I excel. I have handled virtually every type of crime from misdemeanors to serial homicides, including complex economic and environmental cases. My clients include lawyers, doctors, dentists, cops (including a chief of police), nurses, a corporate vice president, military, corrections officers, businessmen of all types and titles, and others from all walks of life.
I am proudest, however, of my reputation for taking, and frequently winning cases other lawyers wouldn't touch due to client and/or evidentiary difficulties. I'm no plea machine. In the mid-90s, I set a record for the number of days in trial in one year, 114. Wins during the period included a murder trial and cross burning (Malicious Harassment). For years, the King County Dept. of Public Defense hired me at an increased pay rate to handle particularly difficult clients with challenging factual scenarios. I have, I'm told, the record for clients physically secured by "Hannibal Lector” chairs and other restraints.
My success and trial win record is not "fluffed," by screening out difficult cases. I know of no other attorney who has 3 acquittals for Aggravated First Degree Murder. I was mentored and tried several homicides with the legendary Tony Savage. He taught me much, including a focus on case results.
I have tried the overcoming percentage of cases alone, with superb investigator assistance, and will fake a heart attack before being forced to trial without maximum preparation. I maintain a rigorous fitness routine and have never lost enthusiasm for exposing wrongful prosecutions, in and out of court.
